DISTANCE OF LIGHTNING
To measure the distance of lightning, count the seconds from the time of the thunder to the flash of the lightning and divide by 5. This will give the answer in miles.

WATCH THE COWS
If a majority of the cows in a field are lying down, a shower is likely to come. You also gauge the likelihood of a shower by the percentage of the cows lying down. It sounds unreliable, but the cows are never wrong.
