Many taxis work out of major hotels in cities such as New York and Boston and people generally line up at the hotel's entrance and wait their turn. If you;re in a rush, walk a block in the direction from which the cabs come, turn down the next available street and hail a cab before they make the turn onto the hotel block. You'll also probably be headed in the right, or easily accessed, direction instead of the cab having to go around the hotel block to start you on your rip.
